What is youdontknow.net?

But what's the point? Why should I care?

Why is it called "You don't know"?

Who is this "The Director" guy anyway?!

What about all these other people the site occasionally mentions?

L.D.C.B.?! What the hell is that anyway?!

What's the deal with the whole boat-gag that's always in the poll?

I don't like your site. Where can I complain?

What is youdontknow.net?

It's a website, genius!... Naw, I'm just kidding... Well, I mean: it is a website... Anyway... A long time ago, in a magical land called "Oklahoma," a slacker named BJ decided he wanted to do stuff. But it wasn't enough for him just to do stuff, he wanted a place to put that stuff where all the world could see, yet ignore. And thus, the idea for youdontknow.net was born. The stuff that BJ wanted to do included a wide variety of entertainment-minded materials such as comics and videos, and whatever else his puny little mind could come up with. He knew that he wanted a website, and he had a number of very talented friends he knew could help him make such a site. The problem was: these friends were SO talented and had such full lives with their own activities and families and what-not, they just always seemed so busy with other things and BJ didn't want to impose. But then Surber came along (Surber and Surber-acolytes be warned: the following is probably going to come off as very harsh on Surber, but he knows that I just like to make fun of him and I'm only partially serious about any of it, so: take a joke here...), and he wasn't talented AT ALL, and even when he actually was busy, he never actually seemed that way, so I figured I could impose the hell out of him! So I threw Surb a bone and asked him to make the site for me! And he did! This, by the way, was in the spring of 2006, and for the next eight months, I sat there doing nothing with this website that I had gotten Surber to partially build for me. Then, all of a sudden, I got inspired and pushed Surber (now living in Texas; him, not me; I'm still in that magical land of Oklahoma) into finishing the site, and then I stole it away from him and took all the credit for how the site looks for myself!

The short version: It's a website, genius!

But what's the point? Why should I care?

I'll be honest: There's no particular reason why you should care. We're not really doing anything wildly important here. And our brand of entertainment and humor may not be for you. But I have it on good authority that at least SOME people like the comics, and at least SOME people like the webisodes, and if I ever actually added chapters or stories, there might even be a handful of people who would like my writing. The point is simply that: it's entertainment. If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. I'm not into all forms and variations of entertainment either. Who is? But I prefer to think that at least somebody may appreciate what we do here, and as long as someone does, that's all the point we need.

The short version: Shut up! Even pointlessness has SOME sort of point!

Why is it called "You don't know"?

One of my "more talented and busy friends who I didn't want to impose on to help make the site" is a guy named Chris, and in spite of the fact that the guy has a life and a family of his own and I don't want to impose on him, I do manage to impose on him for his participation in L.D.C.B. to play the part of Joe Killa. Now, Chris has for a long time had a number of catch-phrases he tends to use in his regular day-to-day life. The biggest and best and longest-running of those phrases we've also turned into the catch-phrase of his on-screen persona, Joe Killa. And that phrase is, "You don't know." It's as simple as that. Everyone (except for Chris's wife) loves it when Chris says, "You don't know." They love it so much, they tend to start using it themselves, in fact! Just like a real catch phrase! And that's why we decided to use it. It seemed like it could make a great name for the site, especially since you don't know what all could end up on the site at any given time anyway! And it came with all sorts of interesting tag-lines, like "Do you know?" just built in! And that's why we used it!

The short version: Chris said it first. Joe Killa said it after. We all say it now.

Who is this "The Director" guy anyway?!

"The Director," already mentioned here as "BJ," and called on the forums or youtube or various other places by "Traz-ak" or sometimes just referred to as "Traz".... he has many names... And much like his names, he also does many different things on the site. He makes the comics. He writes... what you're reading right now. He writes, directs, and edits the videos. He feels really embarrassed by having to talk himself up right now... He does a lot. Which is not to say he does it all. L.D.C.B. would be nothing if it weren't for the other participants who not only bring it to life so well by acting out the parts, but also make suggestions, come up with ideas of their own, and spread the word about the site all over the place, both on and off-line. "The Director"/BJ/Traz-ak would also be sure that everything he did sucked if they didn't lie to him and tell him otherwise, which basically means none of this would be here without them either... so... yeah...

The short version: I'm "The Director!"

What about all these other people the site occasionally mentions?

Well, I just said some of what could be the answer to this in the previous answer, but apart from that... most of them, if not all of them, are actors in L.D.C.B., among other things. Bill is not only the star of the series, he's also something of a producer on the series (though that has gone uncredited thus far), and he does a lot to spread the word about the site as well. I mention Surber a lot, and he would be in the series as well if it were not for the fact that he sucks and moved away. Special shout-out to Katrina, who apart from playing an as-yet unappeared character in the series, has also made extra efforts to spread the word on the site. There are many other actors in the series, who have done and/or are doing a lot to make it better all the time. Our soon-to-be updated character bios will soon expand not just on the characters, but tell you a little bit about the people behind the goofiness as well.

The short version: They're all directly involved in the production of one thing or another.

L.D.C.B.?! What the hell is that anyway?!

The Life and Deaths of Cooter Brown! The premise is a little hard to pin down in just a few words which is why I haven't tried before now. But basically, it tells the very weird stories of a number of different characters who interconnect with one another in various ways. The lead character is, of course, Cooter Brown, but it would be a mistake to think that it's just about him. Joe Killa, Boyd Valentine, Glamour and Rad Latham, Apple Brown, Rolf Iving, Fred Irving, Mr. Mister, Ms. Missus, One-Note Rob, Xlii, and the Dark are all major characters with all kinds of quirks and complex personalities, and the series is as much about one as it is about another. By and large, they have very larger-than-life, wacky personalities, and it is those personalities that drive the story more than anything, though to be sure, the story itself is weird enough, it has something of a personality all its own. I don't want to give too much of the story away though before much of it unfolds, so let's just leave it at this: There are idiots, there are evil geniuses, there's a conspiracy theory, there are hitmen, there are fights-to-the-death, there are very disgusting sandwiches, there are love stories, there're some fantasy-elements... this series has it all! Stick around, and sooner or later, you'll see it all!

It's a webisode series. Watch it!

What's the deal with the whole boat-gag that's always in the poll?

What boat-gag?

The... er... "short(?!)" version: Is it a boat?

I don't like your site. Where can I complain?

If you don't like the site, then that's fine. Like I already said, different people have different tastes, and it may not be for everyone... but if you really feel you must complain, or if you have questions, or whatever, an email adress is going to be put in right here where you can contact "The Director." Or you can always go complain on the forums. Either way.

The short version: Shove it up your--I mean... send it to my email adress, which is.....

And that's about it! If there's anything I didn't touch on here that you really want to know, or whatever else, contact me with the email above (once it's there) or through the forums. And remember: although this is the main attraction of the You Don't Know Zone now, this section is subject to significant change, and is open to contain whatever I feel like at any given time. I just felt like this was the best use of the section for the time being. Expect to be able to find this information in the NAQ section when I decide to retire it from this section, and then, check back with this section for something entirely different! It'll be a little while before that happens, though, so... That's all for now!

"The Director" has spoken!
